Some kind of celebrity
Every once in a while, our presence makes a big splash here in Yueyang. The first time this happened was within a week or so of our arrival when we gave a publicity lecture to a group of middle schoolers. They went crazy! We were mobbed for autographs and asked for hugs. It was insane.
Then we taught the freshmen at the college about Thanksgiving and Christmas. Without fail, during the break in the class and after class, many of the students crowded around us to have their picture taken with us. It was so unreal.
Most recently, we attended a Chinese pop concert. While we waited for the concert to begin, we were surrounded by teenage girls and kids who all wanted their picture taken with us. To be honest, our presence made such a splash that people were still coming up to us during the concert! It was a strange experience.
It seems that we are occasionally some kind of celebrity around here. I can only imagine what it would be like to be a real celebrity with paparazzi stalking me; I don’t think I would like it at all.
