About

I always hate about pages.  I am never good at describing myself and making it interesting.  Sure, I can list facts — I am an American,  female, 25 years old and recently (almost 3 years now) married.  After living in Yueyang, Hunan, China for five months because my husband, John, and I accepted teaching jobs that moved us halfway around the world from our Bowling Green, Ohio home, I am returning to the States to try living on the West Coast in Portland before beginning another adventure abroad.  Despite living in China for five months, my Mandarin is very, very deplorably bad.  However, my Spanish skills improved, so what can I say?  I improved in some language…  Anyway, this blog is a space for me to sort through and share my adventures, experiences, thoughts and observations as I travel around the world, since I have very little to no intention of settling back down in the US for any extended period of time.  I am young and feel called to travel — the world awaits! Especially because teaching ESL jobs exist everywhere, even in the US.  (And yes, I am aware that the previous sentence is a fragment :))  So how’s that for an about me section?

About pages are tough. Anyone who can accurately describe themselves in one paragraph is insane.

    Hi
I know this is odd but I couldn’t resist. I stumbled upon the three part article in RELEVANT Magazine that you and your husband wrote and I just had to try and chat with you! There are just too many odd similarities! I know this may seem odd and feel free to ignore me but if you are not too ‘weird-ed out’ let me know…
    Maybe we can email?

    God bless,
    Rae

Wow… I totally meant to mention in my comment that China is one of the big similarities. I lived in Chengdu and Kunming… That last post made me look really ‘creeperish’…

Thanks so much for the subscription, you have an amazing blog! I feel educated just listening to all the things you’ve done!

My ex-roommate was from Ohio, I hope you’re enjoying Portland!

Rachel, — You write very well, with a distinctive voice. I travelled in the Far East myself when a naval officer in the late 1950s (but never got far into China as that was during the cold war which included China as well as USSR). Best of luck as you carry your ESL skills into exotic places! — James F. Loucks
